mackenzie gets HOT. part one.

the first of two installations of mackenzie gets hot :)

PART ONE: a sexy outside

1. running workout plan - i've never liked running, but running seems to be the best way to get in shape fast. i've tried to fight it, but i must admit, after only 3 runs i'm already feeling much better and healthier. i was surprised to find that in addition to my legs, my abs and butt are sore. yay! gotta tighten up my butt for these skin tight shiny black leggings i just bought at brass plum. they're sexy and fantastic. can't wait to wear them out.

2. no more pop - this speaks for itself. i've given up pop many times before. it's not that hard. but now i'm back into it, and drinking WAY too much of it. i'm done. starting today. it has way too many unnecessary calories and chemicals. nooooo good.

3. learn some new make up techniques - i've never been one to wear a whole lot of make up, but i'd like to learn how to do cool going out make-up. smoky eyes and stuff. i'm also going to buy some matte lipstick and matte nail polish. opi has a cool new line of matte colors. i really like it. i think. i'll have to buy and try one to make positive :)

4. moisturizing - this cold, fall weather is already making my skin really dry and scratchy. i do not like it! i'm looking for a really great hand cream to carry with me on the go. any suggestions? must. have. soft. silky. skin.

that's all for now!
check back for part two: inner hotness
heheheeee :)

college edition

just got back from a weekend in walla walla, washington visiting my best girlfriend, emily! she's a junior at whitman college. she's such a smarty pants! :) we had so so so much fun. it was a much needed break and distraction from my own life. it's nice to have a good friend who i know i will always have a blast with, even if we haven't have seen each other in forever. emmie is the best :)

now that i'm home from visiting emily's college, it's time to finish up the next few steps towards finding my own college.
my application for loyola marymount is due this thursday. i'm applying as a vocal performance music major, which has added lots of extra hullabaloo (had to record a vocal cd since they don't have live auditions), but now it's all done except for the essays! luckily the chapman application isn't due until the 1st of november. spreads everything out.

kenzie's college timeline:
1. tonight: finish common application essay
2. tomorrow: complete lmu supplement essay and questions and send audition cd
3. wednesday: finish common application and submit application with application fee

that was a very boring list for this blog, i know! it was more for my own sake and sanity 8)

so here's a fun link... AWKWARD FAMILY PHOTOS love it.

the yummy things in life

i am hungry.

things i want to eat this fall:

1. roasted pumpkin seeds. so good, and my fam never makes them! what's up with that? just a little salt and oil and put them in the oven. this will have to be the day after pumpkin carving project.
2. chex muddy buddies (aka CRACK). toooo addictive. once i start in, it's all over. here's the recipe. soooo easy! you could even make them in your dorm room! > chex muddy buddies recipe .
3. marionberry cobbler. i've never liked pumpkin pie, so this will have to replace it this season. anyone have a good recipe? but who am i kidding, i wont make this. i'll probably try and get nana too :)

i am also hungry to see some good shows. i haven't been to a theatre production in forever. the last thing i saw was "grey gardens" at portland center stage. it was phenomenal. i especially loved the student price of $26ish. great deal. well worth it, even with the $10 parking. anyways, there are some of my favorite shows playing in portland right now, and i'm really itching to see them. must save money.

shows i'm dying to see:

1. ragtime at portland center stage. portland center stage always has fabulous shows. and i already love this show... so perfect! the only thing that's been holding me back so far is that they haven't been selling student tickets thus far. at least on their website. but as of when i checked this morning, they are! only $23 + all those dumb ticket charges. not too bad! buying my ticket now.
2. company at the winningstad in the pcpa. company is one of my all time favorites, but i've only seen the pbs special and listened to the cd a million times. i figure i have to see it live before it can truly be one of my favorites. tickets run $30 to 35, but i'm waiting to hear about 2 for 1 deals. apparently they aren't selling tickets very well. sad.
3. parade at the mark taper forum in los angeles. when i'm in LA visiting schools this is running, and i may have to spring for 2 tickets so my dad and i can go. he has no interest, but too bad. t.r. knight from "greys anatomy" is in it! this actually doesn't mean much to me as i've never seen an episode, but still. parade is by far my favorite jason robert brown show, and sounds like it'd be well worth the $55 to 80 per ticket. i'll let you know what i decide. here's a review of the show. check it!

off to start my day!

pumpkin time is here!

i cannot WAIT for pumpkin carving. i just can't. i didn't do it (for obvious reasons) either of my years at emerson, and now the time has finally come! well... it will come in two weeks, anyways! the suspense is getting to me. i've even started to research cool carving patterns for this year! woooooo!

mackenzie's possible pumpkin ideas:

1.
finding nemo. i love finding nemo and all things disney. can't help it. why try. check out this nemo pumpkin... so impressive! > http://www.cyberpunkreview.com/pumpkins/nemo.jpg

2. translucent pumpkins.
i'm not a huge martha stewart fan, but i must admit... that beez (or whoever does her website) has some great pumpkin carving ideas. i couldn't pick a favorite, so i went with the monogrammed translucent pumpkins,
http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/pumpkins?#slide_22, but the whole slide show is pretty stellar. i also love the owl pumpkins, but they look quite tricky. take a look! > http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/pumpkins?#slide_14

3. DWIGHT SCHRUTE PUMPKIN.
it can be done!!!! >http://www.instructables.com/id/Phot_o_lantern/ :D

in other news... more music! elise asked for more real people music ideas, and i have one!

you should listen to...

G. Love and Special Sauce.
now, for being a music major, i'm not the best with popular music (or any other genre really). i tend to stick to the few cds i like, and that's it. i need to branch out more. one can only listen to jack johnson for so long. (that's a lie. i will always listen to him). anyways, apparently g. love and special sauce have been around forever, but i'd never heard of them until michael told me about them a couple weeks ago. i love them. so good. i'd say it's rap... but it's not really? rap with instrumentals? eh, just listen to them for yourself! i like their song blues music. here's a crappy youtube version of it, but it'll have to do > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zF0QT7zJuz4&feature=related. let me know what you think, elise! :) oh, and after i made that jack johnson comment i just remembered that their song rodeo clowns features jack johnson. easy transition for me.

that's all for now!

in the beginning...

fall is here. phew. good? bad? i can't make up my mind. good... i think? but either way it's new and fresh. and a good starting point for the rest of my life. the beginning of a new phase. no major changes. well, that's a lie. a couple big ones. again... good or bad? too early to tell. here goes nothing...

things to expect:
1. college applications (almost done, but so so not done)
2. college audition prep (i'd say i'm stressing, but to be honest... meh. i'm learning not to waste the energy)
3. starting a new music collection and photo album (my hard drive crashed this week. i didn't back up anything)
4. saving, saving, and more saving of money (i saved 80% of the money i made this summer. i'm pretty proud of myself. however, the last couple weeks i've been spending like a mad person. fall clothes, voice/piano lessons, getting the business up and running, etc. time to get back in gear)
5. michael in spain. boooooo! (just kidding... kinda :))

fun things to expect:
1. fall clothes and shoes. my ABSOLUTE favorite. nothing beats boots, patterned tights, and a plaid wool skirt... and more boots. *see below
2. an up and running "kenzie rae" website. complete with photos.
3. starting a new music collection and photo album. while annoying, it's been really fun so far. i'm discovering lots of cool new artists and albums. i'm also catching up on some classic music staples i haven't listened to before. *see below. i'm also trying to do this as "free" as possible. checking out cds from the library. kind of middle-age mom-ish, but i don't trust limewire. i'm focusing on getting some real people music first. broadway... i can't deal... right now, anyways.
4. mexico trip - 7 november 09. my first real trip outside the us of a. i didn't even have a passport until a couple weeks ago. the picture turned out nicely :)

*below!

i'm really loving the fashion trends this fall. i've never really been that into clothes, but for some reason i'm all about them lately.

*trend i especially dig:
over the knee boots. i bought these today > http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=413630&CategoryID=25131 they were originally $160, but i got them for $90. woo! i love a good bargain :) you can wear them either over the knee or folded down. they're a little pirate-y, but they definitely grew on me. i like them paired with this dress i got from gap and thick tights > http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=13658&vid=1&pid=692936 i got this dress for 30% off too! yay! :) also like the boots with this top from nordstroms (bought full price, unfortunately) >http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3061903/0~2376776~2378685~2378686~2378699?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=2378699&P=2

more on my wardrobe to come. maybe a discussion on monochrome ensembles? fall clothes are just too fun! :)

*old, great artist i've never listened to, and now adore:
JAMES TAYLOR . how have i been missing out on him?

that's all for now,
mackenzie :)
